Q: What platform do you use for the virtual course?
A: We use the Zoom platform. We HIGHLY recommend that you download zoom on your laptop/desktop computer AND test the audio and video (it is very difficult to take this course via phone or small tablet; hence our recommendation is to use a desktop computer/laptop). It is ideal for testing Zoom on your computer BEFORE the course; those who do not often run into issues at course time. Moreover, as we often see, Zoom technical support does take many days to get back to those who experience issues. Our office cannot provide any technical support for Zoom. Q: How do you perform the practical testing for this course?
A: This is by far our number one question for this program, and our answer is often quite surprising and pleasing to many! The physical testing is performed live, via zoom, by displaying a mock patient and equipment over Zoom AND providing you with a testing scenario. The student will then guide the instructor through the scenario, indicating the correct course of assessment and actions for that patient. The student is objectively scored based upon their responses. Although the instructor is not permitted to prompt the student during the testing, we have much success due to the online classroom practice we did from day 1 of the course; following the A-J mnemonic, most students do well and enjoy the relaxed-friendly format (created by our awesome faculty). Additionally, the practice scenarios are very interactive, and often most students feel prepared at test (and patient) time! Remember, we're here to help you succeed in the course, yet you must pre-study the course to get through.
Q: How do I take the written exam for this course?
A: The written exam is done online, after the live portion of the course. After you have passed the practical portion (see above), you are then issued a link to take the written exam. ENA will send this link to you. The great thing is that you will have seven days to begin the exam. (50 questions, multiple-choice, 2-hours to complete, two attempts, 80% to pass). By doing the written exam "outside" of the course, you can focus more on what's needed in the class and reduce any exam-taking stress. Note: the exam is OPEN-BOOK, yet requires study from the course, pre-course modules, textbooks, and practice stations.
Q: I'm a travel nurse, and I'm in a hurry to get my card. How soon can I start my exam and get my card?
A: You can start your exam as soon as your complete the practical testing for the course. Your course director will enter your score to the ENA website; providing you pass the station, they will issue you the written exam. Once you have completed the course, the card will be available, in your account, on ENA's website.
Q: I'm a brand-new nurse. Can I take this course online/via Zoom?
A: Absolutely, but do know this is an intense course. You will need ample time to study for this program.
Q: I do not have any ED experience. Can I take this course?
A: Absolutely, but do know this is an intense course. You will need ample time to study for this program. Moreover, this course is great for those who do not work in a major trauma center (or pediatric ED). This program builds upon basic concepts, and before long, you have developed a sound structured assessment.
Q: How do I receive my card?
A: Upon successful completion (see below for criteria), your card will be issued via ENA.org. The ENA's website is a great resource as it will be available to you online, and no more waiting for a training center to issue your card.
Q: How do I receive my contact hours?
A: Upon completion of the course, the contact hours are issued directly via ENA.org. Upon logging into your account, you will print/reprint copies of your contact hours certificates.
Q: Can I use my textbook for the written exam?
A: Yes, the written exam is an open-book exam, yet do know that that questions are well-written by ENA and require that you have internalized the concepts from the course to answer the questions.
Q: How long after the course do I have to take the exam?
A: You have seven days to take the exam. Those who do not take the exam are marked incomplete (failed) by ENA.
Q: Can you extend my time to take the written exam?
A: Sadly, no. ENA does not permit us to allow any extensions in the period to take your exam. Their rules are pretty strict, yet we encourage you to contact ENA if you have questions about their exam, course modules, etc. (800) 942-0011.
Q: What happens if I fail both attempts of the exam?
A: ENA does not permit another attempt without re-enrolling in another course.
Q: Do you offer other ENA programs?
A: We offer both popular ENA programs (TNCC and ENPC).
Q: Do I need the textbook to start the pre-course modules?
A: No, you don't need the course textbook to start the modules. However, we recommend that you do have it. The ENA sometimes delays the delivery of both the print version of the book or the eBook. Usually, this delay is due to being out of stock of both the eBook or the print book. We, therefore, implore you to begin the online pre-course modules as soon as you gain access to them, as these modules will cover the core portion of the course (The A-J assessment).
Q: I ordered a textbook, and it has not arrived? What can I do?
A: If you ordered an eBook, please check your junk or spam for the ebook email. This email will contain your ebook code and link to access the text. If you ordered a print book and the 21 day delivery time frame has passed, please email support@CardiacEd.com, and we will obtain tracking for you.
