Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

This advanced resuscitation course teaches a provider's critical actions during an adult cardiac arrest during the first 10 minutes. This program highlights the importance of high-performance team dynamics and communication, care systems, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, immediate post-cardiac arrest, acute dysrhythmia, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). You will learn the immediate actions, including adult BLS, when a patient enters cardiac arrest. This is a common credential required by most facilities.

Throughout this course, you will learn, practice, and apply the following:

Adult basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED
Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest (VF, pVT, PEA, Asystole)
Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia, tachycardia, etc
Basic and advanced airway management
Related pharmacology
Management of Acute Coronary Syndromes (ACS) and stroke
Effective communication as a member and a leader of a resuscitation team

Audience: All healthcare providers where ACLS is required for their workplace requirement/scope of practice. Additionally, students of healthcare programs (i.e., RN Students, Medical Students, NP Students, PA Students, etc., may also attend this program). If you are taking this course for the first time or your ACLS credential has lapsed, this course is for you.

Before attending this course, you should:

Obtain & read the current 2020 AHA ACLS textbook. (obtain on the next page).
Complete the Online EKG & Emergency Pharmacology course before taking this course. This online course includes all necessary content to pass the pre-test and other ACLS course concepts. Registration is available on the next page.
Pass the ACLS pre-test with a score of 70% or higher. Note: the pre-test access code is located inside your account once you register for the course. This link will direct you to the AHA's website; the pre-test provides you with unlimited attempts to pass the pre-test.

Bring with you to the course:

Your copy of the ACLS textbook (eBook is ok).
Pre-test with a score of 70% (or higher).
Copy of your current AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers credential*
Photo ID (i.e., driver's license).

We are not permitted to admit you to the course without these items.

*A BLS card is not required if renewing BLS on the same day as the ACLS course.

To complete this course, you must:

Complete and participate in all stations and discussions.
Pass the written (50 MCQs) with an 84% or higher score.
Complete one mega-code scenario.
Complete the post-course evaluation.

Upon completing this course, you will be issued an American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) credential, valid for two years.

An additional 6.5 contact hours are awarded for completing the ECG & Emergency Pharmacology Course). Up to 22 contact hours can be earned!

Required AHA textbook

The AHA has updated its programs to the new 2020 guidelines. Therefore, each student attending one of their programs MUST order an up-to-date (2020) textbook. The AHA does not permit the loaning of textbooks. Please note that these are the AHA rules/policies, and as one of their training entities, we're required to follow their policies to continue offering their programs. In short, it is required that you have your own copy of the course textbook (the textbook cannot be loaned or rented from anyone), and you must bring the textbook with you to the course.

The good news is that this new 2020 textbook will last you until the 2025 guidelines are released.

Because BLS is a major foundation of any ACLS or PALS course, your BLS skills and knowledge must be proficient to 2020 guidelines. Therefore, ensure that your BLS is updated to the 2020 guidelines.
